Use up the wasted overseas roaming SIM in Japan

Each year in September, the home appliance general trade fair "IFA" is held in Berlin, Germany, and several manufacturers announce and exhibit the latest models of smartphones, so I decided to go to Germany at this time. has become customary.

In addition, securing a means of communication is essential for overseas business trips. Until now, in Germany, I often bought prepaid SIMs for data communication that can be obtained locally at low cost, but in the last two or three years, sales of prepaid SIMs for foreigners have been restricted, making it difficult to buy. Because of this, recently I've been trying to go on business trips after getting a cheap international roaming service in Japan.

Germany feels relatively safe compared to other European countries, but the environment is quite different from Japan, so we have prepared multiple means of communication just in case. Specifically, in addition to the international roaming of carriers, services such as "Ubigi" and "GigSky" that can be used with the eSIM of "iPhone XS", "Jetfon P6" that supports overseas data communication with cloud SIM by itself, and more terminal selection As a means of data communication, we also have an international roaming SIM "SIM 2 Fly" provided by AIS in Thailand, which can be obtained from online shopping in Japan.

Three services are available: "Ubigi" that can be used with eSIM when traveling overseas, "Jetfon P6" that can be used for overseas communication by itself, and "SIM 2 Fly" that can be used with any smartphone

Useless international roaming Use up the SIM in Japan

On this business trip to Germany, I mainly used Jetfon P6, but the Wi-Fi at the hotel was not good, and I watched Rakuten Mobile's presentation on the Internet, which overlapped with the schedule. As a result, it consumes more data traffic than usual. With only one day left, I ran out of 100MB.

Thinking that this was bad, I quickly inserted SIM 2 Fly into the HUAWEI P30 and activated it. I was able to return home safely.

Insert AIS SIM into HUAWEI P30. It's a dual SIM, so I'm happy to be able to use the IIJ SIM that I usually use while it's still inserted. I don't have plans to go on a business trip abroad for a while, so I wondered what to do. In that case, I decided to use up the remaining capacity as it is in Japan.

Since the AIS SIM is inserted in the SIM2 slot, the default data communication is changed there. The roaming destination seems to be Softbank

When I tried using SIM 2 Fly in Japan, the roaming destination was Softbank, and communication on the Softbank line was possible. It's not an MVNO, but roaming, so the data communication speed doesn't drop during the day, which is a big advantage. Losing it is a disadvantage.

However, I am very grateful that the surplus capacity overseas can be used in Japan without waste. SIM 2 Fly is expensive to purchase for domestic use, but it seems to be useful in the sense that it is useful for overseas business trips, and the surplus capacity can be used to alleviate the "giga death" of the month.
