Trying out the HUAWEI P40 Pro 5G camera It's changed a lot more than expected from the P30 Pro: Play with Kei Ogikubo's mobile camera (page 1/3)

"HUAWEI P40 Pro 5G" that the design of the camera part seems to be quite conspicuous and can be taken well

By the way, Huawei's new camera, not a smartphone "HUAWEI P40 Pro 5G", has arrived in 2020. Although there are various writings, basically, "The configuration of the triple camera has been completely renewed with the image sensor and it has become even more amazing" and "AI has evolved and it is equipped with functions unique to AI that are extremely smart" 2 It's a point.

If you check it in detail, it will be long, so I'd like to see it crisply ... However, there are various complicated points, so the first half will be complicated. excuse me.

What is a "Leica Ultra Vision Quad Camera"?

First is the configuration of the camera part.

To be honest, I think the design around the camera has improved. Only the camera part has a different color and texture, and the "LEICA logo" is included under the three cameras used for shooting, and the "camera" is properly appealing. At first glance, it seems that LEICA's ultra-small camera was embedded in Huawei's smartphone.

And the breakdown. The name of each camera is exaggerated, but I wrote it as it is in the HUAWEI catalog.

The camera configuration looks like this.Only the telephoto camera is square because it uses a bending optical system (periscope type) lens.

The color temperature sensor is for more accurate white balance, and the 3D depth of field camera is for measuring depth.

The remaining triple camera has the same ultra-wide-angle, wide-angle, and telephoto configuration as the previous model (P30 Pro), but all sensors and lenses have been renewed.

Look at each camera. The spec notation of the heading is HUAWEI P30 Pro → HUAWEI P40 Pro 5G.

Ultra wide-angle camera: 16mm → 18mm / 20 million pixels → 40 million pixels / F2.2 → F1.6

The ultra-wide-angle camera changes the number of pixels and the brightness of the lens. However, although it is caught that the angle of view is a little narrower than 18mm for a super wide-angle camera, if you look closely, the aspect ratio is 3: 2 instead of 4: 3. There is a sense of wideness because it is a little horizontal.

The point of the super wide angle is that the aspect ratio is a little wide with 3: 2 (same as 35mm film).

Wide-angle camera: 27mm → 23mm / 40 million pixels → 50 million pixels / F1.6 → F1.9

This has a wider angle from 27mm to 23mm, and the lens has become darker at F1.9, but the sensor size has actually increased from 1 / 1.7 type to 1 / 1.25 type. When the sensor gets bigger, the lens gets bigger, so it's probably a little darker to fit the larger sensor + lens in the thin body of the smartphone. However, that is compensated for by improving the performance of the sensor.

I don't think I can understand it even if it is said as a fraction, so if I convert it to a decimal number, it will be 0.59 type → 0.8 type. It feels like it's getting a little bigger.

So, I'm going to take a picture ... something strange.

Camera app screen. The lens is "1x". Taken with the default wide-angle camera. As usual, the clear feeling of the blue sky is amazing. It's 23mm, but isn't it the same as before?

When I took a picture, it was clearly not the angle of view equivalent to 23mm. It's no different from the P30 Pro, Mate 30 Pro and other popular smartphones. Looking at the shooting information (EXIF information) recorded in the photo, it says "35mm equivalent 27mm". that? Wasn't it 23mm?

Then, when I change the shooting mode and shoot at 50MP (50 million pixels), the angle of view is equivalent to 23mm.

In the 50-megapixel mode, I was able to shoot with the original angle of view equivalent to 23mm. The color is a little plain because AI doesn't work, but the descriptive power of the details is amazing.

In normal photo mode, it seems that only the range equivalent to 27 mm is used so that "1x" is equivalent to 27 mm according to the conventional model. Was that so?

Telephoto camera: 125mm → 125mm / 8 million pixels → 12 million pixels / F3.4 → F3.4

The number of pixels of the telephoto camera has increased. In the previous model, when taken in photo mode, it was recorded with a pixel count of 10 million pixels, so it was a little popular when using a telephoto camera. With the HUAWEI P40 Pro 5G, that's no longer necessary.

So, the quality at 5x telephoto is improved. This is fantastic.

With a 5x telephoto camera. The quality is insanely high

By the way, like the previous model, if it is 5 times 27mm, it will be 135mm. The camera specs are equivalent to 125mm. Looking at the shooting information of the image, it is 135 mm. It's a little popular. However, the descriptive power of the details is much higher than that of the HUAWEI P30 Pro at 5x telephoto, which is wonderful.

And double it. I tried to multiply it by 10. Somehow it's beautiful.

At 10 times (equivalent to 270 mm). This is a fairly high quality telephoto lens.Much progress

As you zoom in further, thumbnails will appear in the upper left corner of the screen after 20x. Here is the screen when it is multiplied by 50 of Max.

The shooting range at 5x zoom is displayed in the upper left, and the shooting range is shown in a square. This is a good feature.

When it exceeds 20 times, a thumbnail appears in the upper left like this.If you make it too telephoto, you will easily lose sight of the subject, so this is a good idea .

As expected, the digital zoom feeling comes out when it becomes 50 times. It feels good to use up to 10 times normally. Still amazing.

As mentioned above, there was something I was worried about, so I tried to dig in a little. There may be some people who are curious because the hardware specifications of the camera and the images actually taken are slightly different, but this is the reason.

The wide-angle camera (named Ultra Vision) has 50 million pixels, but in the photo mode, it is treated as "4 pixels as one", so it is actually 12.5 million pixels. If you want to shoot with 50 million pixels, switch to Pro mode or high resolution mode. At high resolution, one pixel is treated as one pixel, so you can take superbly beautiful pictures in a sufficiently bright place (outdoors in the daytime). If it's indoors, the 12.5 megapixel mode should be more sensitive.

Incidentally, the ultra-wide-angle camera is called "cinema camera". It's for video, so I took a 4K video. I'm sorry if I turn my eyes.

There is little distortion and AF is stable, so it's quite good.

I tried walking, spinning and approaching at 4K

Please also take a picture taken in full HD.

Train in full HD. I don't mind the distortion, and the quality is quite good. Can I use the function to remove reflections and people?
