国内大手家電メーカーが、スマートフォンなどと連動する洗濯機やエアコン、いわゆる「スマート家電」を続々と発表している。スマート家電は、電機業界において韓国や中国メーカーがプレゼンスを増していく中、お家芸ともいえる日本製家電製品の生き残りをかけた戦略としても注目されている。しかしその一方で、パナソニックが同社製エアコンにおいて、電気用品安全法 技術基準への適合に課題があるという理由から、外出先からエアコンをオンにできる機能を販売直前で急遽見合わる事態に追い込まれた。今や自動車では離れた場所からエンジンの始動ができる「リモコンエンジンスターター」が製品化されており、エアコンのリモート操作が安全適合に問題があるという判断はバランス感覚に欠けるという印象を持つ。引火性の強いガソリンを搭載し、暴走による被害が大きくなりがちな自動車はOKで、低圧ガス、低圧コンプレッサーによる熱交換システムであるエアコンが危険と判断される理由が、監督官庁の違い（自動車の保安基準は国交省、家電製品の保安適合基準は経産省）でしか説明できないとしたら、縦割り行政の弊害以外のなにものでもない。連載一覧▲ Close ▼ All display
スマート家電は一見、製品製造を伴うメーカーの問題で、IT企業やプロバイダー、ソフトウェアベンダーは関係ないと思うかもしれない。しかし、インターネットに接続できる体重計や健康器具、電子レンジや冷蔵庫は、すでに大手メーカーによって製品化されている。先ごろの流れは、インターネット接続（クラウド接続）用の端末にスマートフォンを利用しただけと言い切っても良いのだが、いずれにしてもその中でITベンダーが果たす役割は少なくない。たとえば、M2M（マシン・ツー・マシン）向けには、組込みを前提とした小型で安価な3G通信モジュールなどの製品も出現しているため、networkインテグレータにも関連してくる。ここでメーカー企業のdevelopment者や、クラウドや通信経路を設計するITベンダーの担当者が考えなければならないのは、それぞれ経験の少ない市場エリアでのSecurityのクライテリアをどのように考えるのかということだ。そしてそれは、製品メーカー、アプリベンダー、インフラ事業者、消費者、さらには官公庁を巻き込んで、Securityレベルの合意をどのように形成していくのか、といった課題につながっていく。【次ページ】スマート家電の問題は行政対応だけではないTo List
