The "Wi-Fi bridge" is surprisingly useful for the HUAWEI P20 Pro. This is a function to connect other devices to the connected Wi-Fi. It literally bridges (relays) Wi-Fi. A similar feature is also included in the Galaxy series under the name "Wi-Fi sharing," which I have previously covered in this section.
This feature is not standard on Android and is often not included on all smartphones. I don't use it often, but it doesn't mean I don't use it at all, so I'm glad I had it. I often use it on business trips. If you try to connect various devices such as PCs, iPads, and spare smartphones to Wi-Fi in a hotel room, you have to enter a password for all of them, which is troublesome.
If you can connect to the P20 Pro in advance using a Wi-Fi bridge, such trouble will be done only with the first setting. Depending on the service, Wi-Fi relay may be a problem in terms of regulations, so I would like to check in advance, but it seems that the number of connected devices is limited for some reason in hotel Wi-Fi. There are also cases. Wi-Fi bridges are also useful in such cases.
Also, although it will be the same as the previous article, there are still terminals that do not support 5GHz band Wi-Fi at this time. Since I haven't used PORTABOOK anymore, I've used it less frequently, but some of the terminals I borrowed for review, especially cheap ones, may not support Wi-Fi in the 5GHz band. Since my office is only in the 5GHz band, terminals with only the 2.4GHz band are connected to the Internet with a Wi-Fi bridge.
Unfortunately, it cannot be launched directly from the button in the notification areaThe difference with the Galaxy is that the P20 Pro has to open the settings menu every time it uses the Wi-Fi bridge. In the case of Galaxy, once you turn on Wi-Fi sharing, all you have to do is enable tethering when connecting to Wi-Fi, and Wi-Fi sharing will start automatically. Therefore, you can turn on Wi-Fi sharing immediately with the button to pull out from the notification area.
On the other hand, the P20 Pro doesn't have a notification setting button, so the number of taps on the screen increases a little, which can be annoying. Open the settings, go to "Wireless & networks" → "Tethering" → "Wi-Fi bridge", and when you turn on the switch, the Wi-Fi bridge will be enabled, but originally you want to call from the home screen with one touch By the way. Also, the SSID and password need to be set separately from normal tethering.
I wanted to create an icon to open the Wi-Fi bridge screen with an app called "QuickShortcutMaker" that can create a shortcut that directly calls a specific setting screen, but I couldn't do that because I didn't have the authority. I don't use it often, but if I'm staying at a hotel on a business trip, I have to open this screen every time I come back to my room. I wanted this usability to be a little better.
The setting screen can be called by selecting "Wireless and networks"-> "Tethering"-> "Wi-Fi bridge". The SSID and password can be set differently from those for tethering. I could not create a shortcut to directly call the Wi-Fi bridge.docomo Online Shop |
