Goodbye again and again like the human language of the universe.
The next generation wireless standard "Wi-Fi 6" will come next year! Today's "802.11ac" is called "Wi-Fi 5" and "802.11n" is called "Wi-Fi 4". I can finally remember!
Is the current router all right? Will the video load speed up? Wait a minute, let's clean up the simple questions here.
The Road of Wi-Fi
As older people will remember, the previous dial-up connection was connected to the network only by PC with a cable plugged in. It took 30 minutes to download a piece of MP3 music, and even the phone could not be used until the end. The savior who appears there is Wi-Fi. It's getting cheaper and cheaper, downsizing until it fits the home router. The initial standard was released in 1997, when the transmission speed was 2Mbit/s, and the 802.11b in 1999 was 11Mbit/s, and the popularity officially began.
The Wi-Fi communication standard is formulated by IEEE (American Institute of Electrical and Electronics). "IEEE802" is wired LAN, and "802.11" means wireless LAN. Since the release of 802.11b, wireless local area network (Wi-Fi) standards have emerged innumerably, both for home and non-home use.
The two highlights are 802.11g in 2003 (the maximum speed of 54Mbit/s) and 802.11n in 2009 (600Mbit/s improved in one fell swoop). The latter's emergence of dual-band routers in the 2.4GHz and 5 GHz bands is also a major milestone.
The speed is 4-10 times.
Now the highest speeds in the 802.11acBand 5 GHz band are Nuan and 1300Mbit/s. This is a calculation that has evolved 600 times in just 20 years from 1997. So you can't be startled. Wi-Fi 6 is faster. It's just that apart from speed, there is a lot of room for improvement.
Today's routers adopt an intelligent way that can make better use of 2.4GHz band and 5GHz band. As a result, although the same band is used, there is less interference and the communication speed becomes faster.
"Wi-Fi 6" is a nickname and the official name is "802.11ax". Products and software printed by Wi-Fi 6 will be available from next year. Here's the sign.
It's like numbering Google's Chromecast logo after clipping.
There are two main improvements, namely, communication speed and throughput (speed limit and number of lanes on the highway). Wi-Fi 6 can also stream 8K videos. Although there is a downlink speed part of the communication company service, it is technically possible.
2.4 GHz band up to 1.1 Gbit/s,5 GHz band up to 4.8 Gbit/s (8-line streaming). Improvements will continue before the official release next year, and more growth is expected (the laboratory can actually measure 10Gbit/s information). In any case, the speed seems to be 4 to 10 times faster than it is now.
Become a power saver.
Another improvement is very low power consumption. Since there is no final version here, there are no measured values, but this is a welcome improvement for smartphones and frequently connected PC batteries.
Wi-Fi 6 has improved both in hardware and software, and even crowded sports bars can pick up strong signals. Well, although it is affected by walls, numbers, and electromagnetic waves.
Do you need to prepare?
We don't need that much. Wi-Fi 6 also supports products of previous specifications, so products that support Wi-Fi 6 are bought, so routers must be replaced with new specifications before they can be used. You can use it now. It's just not like the high-speed environment used on routers that support Wi-Fi 6.
Only when the pace of hardware, software, ISP and other companies is complete, can it be popularized, so please wait patiently for the exchange notice from the communication company. Of course, you can also buy it yourself.
There may also be new name lines on the field line, but Wi-Fi 6 won't be out until next year, so be careful.
When it comes to the official launch in 2019, it means that it will be several months before the market matures and becomes popular when the first Wi-Fi 6 fully functional terminal is available. There are also many products corresponding to the specifications in the development phase.
That's why I'm looking forward to it, Wi-Fi 6. The meeting will not be off the net, a home router connected to 20, do not have to worry that it will be late. Smart speakers plus smart lighting, the jungle of video streaming, is a long-awaited new specification for already full families. The future is bright!
