These broadcast contents are watched by more than 45 million people across various platforms.

Rooster Teeth, a leader in media and entertainment, has enthusiastic entertainment fans around the world, and operates a wide range of business models, including memberships, advertising, podcasts, distribution, events, and e-commerce.

"In addition to our Extra Life charity stream and live events like E3, our department has up to 10 productions per week."

said Patrick Salazar, broadcast director for Rooster Teeth.

“These productions are done in a floor with Blackmagic Design cameras and a control room with Blackmagic Design switchers and media recorders. It includes a broadcast-quality lighting system and grid pipes, a live-ready control room, and a booth for live graphics and audio.”

The Austin studio uses six URSA Broadcasts. These videos are sent to a Smart Videohub 40x40 router along with other sources such as graphics, prompters and game consoles, and from there an ATEM 4 M/E Broadcast Studio 4K, ATEM 1 M/E Advanced Panel and MultiView 16 , routed to the SmartScope Duo 4K monitor. 4 HyperDeck Studio Pros and 2 HyperDeck Shuttle SSD recorders recording ISO for each camera and another HyperDeck Studio Pro for line cuts from ATEM. This video will also be used for live streaming. A similar workflow is also used at Rooster Teeth's LA studio.

"URSA Broadcast is very sleek and versatile. Best of all, the image quality has improved."

Mr. Salazar continues.

"Sometimes you need a handheld camera, and URSA Broadcast is easy to take off the pedestal and start a new job. It's very comfortable for photographers. The features give photographers and engineers the flexibility to control the visual elements and movements required in production.”

Rooster Teeth has been using ATEM switchers since 2012. “At the time, the deciding factors for choosing ATEM were price and flexibility. Having the option to switch via software on multiple devices, not just laptops, is great. Very reliable. The ATEM and control panels we use today are more sophisticated, but still easy to use.”

Also, for live gaming and visual podcasts, ATEM's DVE allows technical directors to experiment with picture-in-picture and resize images and other inputs on-the-fly. , this function is also very useful.

“Without ATEM’s SuperSource feature, I don’t think it would have been possible to create a 24-hour charity live show called Extra Life. It stayed on the screen throughout the hour.SuperSource is also essential for live streaming games.”

and Mr. Salazar.

Rooster Teeth has raised over $6 million in donations through Extra Life over the past seven years. Extra Life is a charity program that helps game players raise money for the Children's Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals. CMN treats thousands of children annually, regardless of the ability of each family to pay. Donations raised by Rooster Teeth have directly benefited the Dell Children's Mental Health Unit in Austin, Texas. Dell Children has named the mental health unit's garden "The Rooster Teeth Healing Garden" in honor of Rooster Teeth's continued support. Extra Life brings together thousands of game players from around the world to support CMN through a 24-hour gaming marathon. Since its launch in 2008, Extra Life has raised over $40 million for local CMN Hospitals.

Extra Life was created in our Austin studio with two additional URSA Broadcasts, a second ATEM, multiple converters and a completely reworked camera routing map. “The Smart Videohub 40x40 gives us the flexibility to route inputs and outputs to the control room, allowing us to build production systems of any size.”

For Extra Life 2019, equipment manager Hector Gonzales and his crew used Pocket Cinema Camera 4Ks to shoot behind the scenes.

The Pocket Cinema Camera 4K is very small, but it can capture very cinematic images. , is a very flexible codec. Our video deadlines vary greatly, so this is very important. Having codec options is a must.”

Gonzalez continues.

"With 13 stops of dynamic range, I had the flexibility to move around outdoors. That's exactly why I chose the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. To shoot Extra Life from the outside." I can't spend enough time setting up lighting all the time, so dual native ISO is a very useful feature, and it gives me clean image quality and a dynamic look, even when I'm on the move."

"In terms of the technical side of this department, we have installed equipment in the control room and studio floor that can produce high-quality footage, operate as efficiently as possible in any situation, and withstand the tight weekly production schedule. It's my job to do

Mr. Salazar concluded.

"That's why we chose Blackmagic Design from the start and why we continue to add their products to our ever-expanding workflow."
